Cocked dice

I can't understand why we'd want to take a rule that has traditionally been crystal clear and start to make it muddier.
Even if people like to use it in some tournament events, it wreaks havoc in chouettes, where the new standard is very easy to apply consistently, what with people coming and going. and some chouettes using the new or the old rule. You wind up with people who have played by the traditional standard for decades simply not remembering the new rule, and wrongly picking up dice, and open up the real possibility of some played 'selectively remembering' what rule you're playing by and letting some 'cocked' rolls play and not others.
Can't people (after vigorously shaking the cup) be a little more deliberate and gentle in their rolling on a crowded field -- or more often ask permission to roll on the other side?
Various standards for what constitutes a fair roll are just a breeding ground for argument and even cheating, and one more "variation" (along with 'Legal Plays') to have to establish in every situation, possibly varying from city to city and event to event. Do we really need this?
