Chicago BMS Betting coordinated by Phil
I have been asked by the tournament directors of the BMS Chicago event this Sunday to offer some fun side bets, as several players have expressed an interest and there will not be time for a Calcutta. There will be a 90% return on these side bets, and the 10% rake will go entirely to the tournament directors to help compensate them for their time and expenses.
The 16 participants are (in alphabetical order)
Craig Anderson
Steve Blanchard
Jack Edelson
David Hanold
Shlomo Karbal
Neil Kazaross
Tim Mabee
Keene Marin
Greg Merrimen
Dmitriy Obukhov
John O’Hagan
David Presser
Herb Roman
Phil Simborg
Allen Tish
Amy Trudeau
All betting is pari-mutuel meaning that the return is based on the bets. If you are one of 4 that picks the winner, you will get 25 percent of the winner’s take.
The following bets will be accepted, $25 min. and $100 max. per bet per player:
Bet No. 1: Who will win the tournament? (A tie is a tie and the playoff for trophy won’t matter)
60 percent to first place
40 percent to second
Bet No. 2: Who will win the PR contest?
70 percent to No. 1 in PR
30 percent to No. 2 in PR
Bet No. 3:
How many players will average under 4 PR?
You can bet the Over/Under and how many players will average under 4 PR.
The magic number is 5. You can bet there will be 5 or more players averaging under 4 PR, or less than 5 who average under 4 PR.
(After all the betting is complete, I will email everyone who bets a copy of all the bets and payouts. On the PR bets, it will take about 2 weeks to get the PR results.)
Bet No. 4: $50 side pool for who will win the most matches aside from the top 4 seeds (Neil, John, Dmitriy, David Presser.)
I have been asked if I will accept bets from people not at the tournament. Sure. It only makes the pot bigger and provides a little more money to help the directors (they put in a tremendous amount of time but also had to buy a lot of equipment to record every match).
If you are interested, email me, and if I know you well I will "cover" your bet and collect from you later. If I don't know you well, you will have to paypal me your bet in advance.
If you do not get back an email confirming your bet and with paypal instructions, you do not have a bet.
Note that people betting will NOT be able to see how the bets are going so far...there simply won't be time to post everything and share it with people on line and at the event.
Lastly, if someone can think of another fun bet that would be easy to add, I'm all ears, and again, this is all done at the request of and approval of the tournament directors and I am not getting any advantage in doing this.
I will not place any bets myself as I would have the advantage of seeing how the bets are going (except I will bet on myself in the side pool as I am a shoo-in to win that.)
Oh, yes, one last bet if anyone is interested. I am willing to bet that I will play under 10 PR. Any takers? (It might be worth placing this bet just to insult me--here's your chance!)
