Game Situation Terminology?

Thanks for posting these observations. You're taking on a bigger (and differently useful) challenge than I'm dealing with, since you're seeking objective definitions that can be used to harvest positions automatically from large sets of positions or matches. At the moment I'm just dealing with positions I've already identified as useful/interesting and using tags to characterize them 'by hand.' So for instance, if I had a whole match I was studying in XG, I might spot a position worth keeping, take a screen-capture of the board, drag it into my database along with the rollout results, and then tick some appropriate checkboxes that would help me 'get back to it' later if I was wanting to review/work on some kind of position.
It's always tricky to come up with sharply-defined descriptive terms based on intellectual interpretation of something. (Do you actually have an objective description of, say, 'Containment Game' that works well?) it's like coming up with 'Genre' terms in a database of movies -- the movies come first, then the genre terms to describe them come after, so the movies don't necessarily fit into them neatly.
