In Response To: NY Metro Open 2016 Recap/Review - Long (Matt Cohn-Geier)

It doesn't matter that there was nothing elitist about the room, it's how it felt to many players who weren't *in the know*. To me it was a crying shame that the only, the absolute only player who saw the drama of the main final was me. Steve Sax was in a doubles match in that room and trying to sneak away to watch but Mochy kept telling him to come back to his own match so he missed it. Not one other soul was watching this match, are you kidding me?! Why weren't they? Because it was in that room. I wasn't supposed to be in that room either because I wasn't playing.

I don't see a problem with a large gathering of people around the board. The spectators get the cheap seats and if you're on one of the teams you obviously have first choice. If someone gets too close or in your way you say...'Get the fuck out of my way!'

This makes it difficult both for other spectators simply to see what's going on, and for players to deal with the increased commotion, noise, ambient temperature

It wasn't kosher for me to claim that one could play better online opposed to live but MCG needs the ambient temperature to be perfect to play his best.

I agree with your ending but addressed that in my original post somewhat. If you are going to hold such an event you need to tailor it around the other events. You need it to take place when people will have time to watch it. You also would need to promote that from the beginning so that people will know and come early or stay late to see it. If it was set up in advance and promoted accordingly plenty of people would come early or stay the extra night to watch some of the world's best players duke it out.
