Directors (whose tasks cover multiple responsibilities such as arranging the tournament venue, advertising the event, managing the staff, and making OtB rulings) play a huge part in keeping the game going, and in most cases without compensation. At best the typical TD's goals includes avoiding going into debt!

As such, IMO, we need to give them a lot of rope. If you look at the US backgammon tournament scene we have several veterans with decades of experience still running tournaments: CJC, Patrick Gibson, Howard Markowitz, and (apparently) soon to be retired Bill Davis. They all have been running tournaments for more than half of *their* lifetimes; in fact possibly more than 2/3 of their lifetimes!!! There's a reason they are still around and it's not because they've made money and it's not (simply) because they enjoy it although they do, despite the occasional pain-in-the-ass insensitive, selfish player they must deal with. It's at least partly because they've been successful and that players "vote with their feet" in the positive direction.

The flipside is that the directors who aren't responsive to the players' wishes and concerns don't survive.

I asked about your three situations being pretty sure that they were on the extreme side and thus unlikely, but certainly not impossible in the history of the game. In my experience the mistakes are 1) rare, 2) made under duress (especially after lack of sleep which is inevitable in their business), 3) made without malicious intent, and 4) corrected in future events. To have a committee overseeing much of their actions seems not only inefficient and overbearing, but also impractical.

In a more ideal world your proposal would be acceptable, even laudable. At the current state of backgammon there are (IMO) many more important issues to address.
