Here are three historical situations to look up: {Nelson, Hogan, Snead} before Nelson retired, {Palmer, Nicklaus, Player} in the early 60's when Arnie was still a serious contender, and {Nicklaus, Player, Trevino} in the late 60's and early 70's. Look at 5 year windows. I guess besides Nelson retiring at his peak you also had WWII so maybe there aren't any five contiguous year periods to look at for that set.

I agree that the depth of competition is greater so you need to discount the historical numbers. Just gut feel, I think those three winning 50% of the majors in the next five years seems high.
