I think its important to prepare yourself to have an opportunity to disrupt white should you be hit immediately (by creating a second anchor opportunity). So staying back with the entering checker feels important to me. Not shifting a gap to the 3pt (which is bad), but more giving yourself more opportunities to maintain a solid board.
