In my opinion, it is necessary to hit the blot to win some important tempo that can be used to move forward with the back checkers. There are two plausible hitting plays: 4/2*(2) and 10/9 5/2*.
Although 4/2*(2) hits the blot, it doesn't contain the blot sufficiently. Actually, it doesn't contain it at all. 10/9 5/2*, however, volunteers a shot, but contains the blot appropriately. Having two anchors it wouldn't be overly dramatic if the Prime Factors could hit.
