about that Giant list

No question Ed is a Giant. As for the Giant list itself, it has almost always been true that the farther you go from the top of the list the less reliable the list. It's hard to find much fault with the very top names on this, and most other year's Giant lists. I would say that maybe the top 5 or 6 names are a pretty good indicator of people who deserve to be there. After that, it is more a matter of how many people from each country is voting and who happens to be popular in that country and who happened to do well lately, with a few sentimental favorites tossed in.
It's still fun to see who is on the list and where, and who isn't, and it's still fun to vote, but putting any real meaning to the list, again, after the top few, is folly.
Back to Ed...one reason he didn't make the list is he is a nice, quiet guy who goes about his business playing very well and winning. He's not a showy guy who makes a lot of noise or brags a lot about his game. He's always up there on my voting because I have worked with him on positions and discussed many theories with him, and he is brilliant.
I remember one time I had made a very tough quiz and top players scored 6 our of 10. I showed it to Ed at dinner and he got 10 out of 10 and gave excellent, uncomplicated explanations for every answer.
Ed will always be a Giant on my list.
He's not the only one that didn't make the list that I am sure should be there, including Eric McAlpine from England, Bill Phipps and Dorn Bishop from the US, and a few others that I would put in the 32-64 category.
I also believe that Marty Storer and Joe Russell belong much higher on the list.
