Thanks for the tips. My conclusions after analyzing opp's responses for anybody who'd like to take a lesson out of this problem, as I just did:

18/17 produces a generally stronger position on opp's misses. After his 4 dances we even have a small double (which we wouldn't have after 3/2).

After 18/17 there are 9 (vs 7 after 3/2) opp's jokers that result in our eq dropping to ca. (0.1 ; -0.15) range, and they are generally worse to us than after 3/2.

And then there is a huge additional opp's joker of 33, which completes the swing.

Those bad sequences happen to overcome the positional gains from 18/17 in this particular problem.
