Wrong Set-Up

Having sixteen checkers in a position in an earlier post reminded me of the wrong position Alan Grunwald and I started from in the last game of our Open Jackpot match in Las Vegas. Somehow we both overlooked the fact that he started with 4 on his eight point and 4 on his midpoint.

Luckily, it made no difference. Score was 7-7/11. I got the opening roll, 4-2, and made the four point. He played 13/11, 6/5 with 2-1. I picked them both up with 4-6. He brought one in with 4-3. I cubed, he took. I blitzed him for the match winning gammon as he never got both checkers in.

Amazing how we both could overlook the mis-positioning of the checkers but I guess stranger things have happened.
