I cannot say I share your intuition regarding the first point (although I think it was conventional wisdom 10 years ago), but I agree that something like that would have to affect fish tables (also fish-vs-fish tables!). It is a pity that constructing empirical METs based on human play has gone out of style.

I think I do not understand your second point. Would demonstrating that gammon values according to fish tables tend to be shifted to the expected directions be a satisfying backup calculation?
