Your higher end laptops ($1500-$2k) are generally heavier in weight because they're virtually a desktop. This allows such things as quad cores that are generally 2.6-3 GHz. The batteries can also come in different shapes in sizes. Your general laptop will be a 4 cell lithium ion battery. As the machine gets more beastly it will move up to a 6 cell or 9 cell battery which can handle all the ass kicking these gaming machines can do.

The Ghost Pro gaming laptop I just got it a quad core 2.7 GHz and gets slightly above Jake's XG evaluation speed.
