Slotting the 4pt seems to provide balance.

Our rear checkers are already split, so the equity we might gain by moving to the 20pt is probably less than it would be if we still had both runners stacked on the 24pt. "Re-splitting" is usually not as important as an initial split. Starting the 20pt, however, is still an attractive play to me. It aims to snag an anchor there, and enter a mutual holding game. 24/20 is my second-favorite play in this position.

Our four checkers on the midpoint are fine. If we still had five checkers there, unstacking one of them might have merit. Given that we are split, however, leaving an additional target in the outer board is probably the wrong idea.

So, that leaves slotting. With four checkers on the 8pt, we can efficiently slot our 4pt, and still have a spare back on the 8pt.

8/4

Mike
