1. I cannot remember precisely, but it may be that the icon will reappear the next time you connect to a USB device. The fact that you expected the icon to remain, however, tells me that this idea is probably wrong (at least in your case).
2. Make a backup before you start trying to bend it back! If the thing is cheap, I would just buy a replacement.
