Hitting takes away many of the Dillies' point-making rolls. Ignoring doublets, 21, 31, 41, 43, 61, and 62 would allow the Dillies to make either their 5pt or 7pt. Hitting is a tempo play that removes all twelve of these point-makers. Since we already trail badly in the race, getting hit back is not as bad as it might be.

Coming out to the 18pt also has merit. The Dillies would have six point-on-head numbers, but barring one of them, we would have a chance to hit back or make our 18pt.

If I could hit with a 2, rather than a 4, I would try hitting. Hitting with a 4, however, is less attractive. It strips the 8pt, leaving a position that is both stripped and stacked.

bar/23, 22/18
