300 experience points would mean attending 5 tournaments before achieving a grading - with such a stringent requirement BMAB would never have survived.
This issue was discussed in great detail by the pre-launch consultation panel. It was agreed that generally 100 experience points was the minimum requirement for grades of G3 and below, 150 for G2 and 200 for G1. However, it is possible to achieve grades of G1 and below by a fast-track/tougher target route with 65 experience points(only applicable to newcomers to BMAB playing in their first BMAB tournament). The tougher targets are such that players need to outperform the normal PR threshold by one class level (example to achieve G3 it is necessary to play below PR 3.5 rather than PR 4.0. These tougher targets have proved to be reliably tough with no player yet being able to achieve a grandmaster level after one BMAB tournament.
Based on evidence hitherto, these targets threshold levels appear to provide the desired level of reliability. However, when XG3 is released, this will be an ideal time to review both threshold levels (PR and experience) and analysis requirements.
There is a footnote to the table included on the final page of the chart which explains the methodology. The ranking is fundamentally based on the grading level achieved with overall aggregate PR used as the main tie-breaker.
