Can you roll your dice when the opponent is away?

Bill, as a TD, you might have an opinion on this. If my opponent is under the table searching for his dice cup, should you even roll in the first place?

Good sense suggests that a player should have an opportunity to watch as his opponent rolls. If he does not want to look, that is his business. He ought to have a right, however, to be at the table. Otherwise, how can he know whether a roll is a legal one? I can just imagine the arguments. "Oh, yeah. While you were on the floor, I rolled a joker."

If someone has to go to the floor to pick up a cup, or dice, or whatever, then the clock should be stopped while he is "away." Certainly, no one should be rolling the dice. If the rules don't demand that, then good etiquette does.

At least, that's what I think!

Mike

P.S. I know, of course, that clock rules already stipulate that the clock be stopped when one or more dice leave the table.
