Can you roll your dice when the opponent is away?

Sorry. I did not mean to suggest that any hanky-panky occurred with the dice. I watched the entire video. Regarding the roll, there was no bad faith. 53 was the roll that came out of the cup.
I was just asking, in general, what the rule and/or ethics should be. I gave you my opinion. You seem to concur. Rolling the dice when your opponent is not at the table is not the right way to play backgammon. Once we understand what the rule is, or whether there is any rule at all, then we can consider how to apply it in this circumstance.
I brought it up because a suggestion was made that the illegal correction of the illegal move should have been allowed to stand. The reason given was because the dice had been rolled. In this case, the video shows that Ed protested before his opponent had made a legal roll. My question, therefore, is moot.
Interesting, perhaps, but moot.
