In Response To: Legal Moves - Back to the Future ABT Rule 4.8 (Bill Finneran)

Player A can make an illegal play to his own advantage. Then, if player B corrects the error, player A is not penalized in any way.

I am pretty much in agreement with David Rockwell. Legal Moves rule, as is, doesn't stop players from cheating, or from bwing careless. I am for penalties for illegal plays, but don't know what they should be. Illegal moves are much more common then in chess, and you don't want a player lose a match simply because he made an error.

Maybe for matches with clock, give a warning after 1st offense, and take 2 seconds off of delay time after that. Posibly, give 2 warnings for matches 15pt or longer. For matches without clock, give 2 warnings, and then give his opponent extra point after the next offense. Maybe 1 warning is enough for matches shorter than 9pt.
