Great story! I'm glad you were able to keep your equanimity.

The EuBGF rules described by Rick Janowski are equipped to handle this perfectly. The first couple of times your opponent errs, he gets to fix it without penalty. After that, you can call a director to ask for a warning. Subsequent infractions would then be penalized.

As it happens, the penalty is a harsh one. "Repeated illegal moves may result firstly in a warning, and subsequently in penalty points."
