I figured, esp. OtB, a lot of people wouldn't give this play too much thought. It seems like the perfect roll, and it is a pretty decent one when played correctly.
If we take the time to setup 6(4) and envision how our numbers will play next turn we soon see that [65 54 52 63 43 32] all leave shots. That's 12 numbers, quite a few! If instead we make the switching play we really don't have any immediate shot leaving numbers and clearing that point over a few turns isn't as tough as you might imagine. Our 6s are killed, all our big numbers play which means all our small numbers play. The only real issue will come when (and if) we get down to two checkers on the bar point and we roll big/2 or big/1.
