I agree with Phil--about that sensor board

I have played on Jakob's sensor board and I love the concept. If the board was less cumbersome, less expensive, and worked better I would be the first to endorse it.

Our first attempt at making a transcriber was to do it with a board that does everything Jakob's does and more, but we abandoned the idea for a camera and software instead for several reasons:

1. If we made a sensor board, then you would have to play on our board to be able to have automatic transcription, and the board would be very heavy, complicated, and expensive, and you would not be able to play on your own board;

2. With our program, you can play on any board and the program will be much less expensive.

3. There were some great technical difficulties having a sensor board, particular when checkers get stacked or if the program doesn't properly read the dice, or if the player makes an illegal move. Our system does not have these problems. A player making an illegal move does create a problem but our program catches that and gives a warning.

4. While many of us love the idea of electronic dice, some will still want to roll the traditional way, and we want to be able to offer that as an option.
