Last night at dinner the fellow backgammon player I was with told me that it is impossible to ever have a truly random system.

That's because it's impossible to prove that, mathematically. The guy who made the dice tube had a habit of saying that he performed some randomness test on his tubes and then proclaimed "randomness was achieved." This is complete nonsense.
