Fairest order of tie-breakers for backgammon round-robin tournaments?

Even if there is no money, why not have a consolation? The other players are staying and playing anyway...why make the rest go home? It doesn't cost anything to have a consolation.

Are people playing for trophies? Then have one for consolation. Are they playing for points toward a club or association rating? Then give some points to consolation.

Backgammon does not have to be about money, but most "tournaments" do have to charge an entry fee to pay for the venue and expenses and give the director some compensation for his effort....and usually there is a side pool or something that the players are competing for. So my answer relates to "most" tournaments.
