If the problem is the transcription program reading the dice then perhaps the program can initially not read the dice - Translating images/videos into BG positions would still be a huge advance from what we have now. And a large part of the time (~75%?) dice can be inferred from the change in position. Of course would be best for the software to read the dice and would provide error checking of positions - but would still be good even without it.
