Yes, of course the dice need to be known before analyzing a match. What I was saying was your program would still be valuable from a transcription pov even if it didn't read the dice since it would still have (almost) all the positions and say, 75% of the dice rolls could be inferred. The ones that were ambiguous would need to be manually entered. Maybe I was reading too much between the lines in your comment about your transcription program but when I thought about trying to develope one myself a while back I thought I would initially focus on the positions and leave the dice for phase 2.
