3(2) was my first choice, too, for similar reasons. I guess Neil and John don't like putting two spares on a point that usually hurts holding spares at all. And maybe the extra builder on the 5-point is worth quite a bit, too, with the open 4-point.

Still in the dark as to what XG preferred, and how no one in the LV box seats could even fathom it....
