Interesting thematically. Do you know why you should hit off the 2pt? Do you know why you hit off the 12 point? Do you know why you slot the 9pt? Obviously you cannot do all of the above, but you should be able to figure out that those are 3 core goals of this position. Long term strategy here is to build a prime in front of opps checkers so that they are squeezed in terms of timing and structure. Thusly, you want to roll your prime backwards (or make all the required points at least), and you want to squeeze opp into surrendering an asset in your homeboard.
So, who to trust? Trust the person that can tell you why, not the bot that is looking 2 or 3 plays ahead for a higher percentage of wins and gammons. This is why it is hard to play backgames against the bots, because they arent playing a them or a strategy, they are playing for most improved percentages over the ply they are running at. To get a true answer, you almost need to be running at 40 or 50 ply - of course, if we could do that, we'd be solving backgammon.
