The London Open Moves to an Even Better Venue, Mochy Confirms his Attendance and We’re Already a Third Full with 90 Players Signed Up!

The London Open 2016, 27th, 28th and 29th August, Dalston Heights.

Dear Backgammon Players,

Bad news and good news. The bad news is that the Hippodrome are no longer able to host the London Open 2016. The good news is that we found a better venue.

We have secured what we believe is the best backgammon venue that modern tournament backgammon has seen – Dalston Heights.

We have secured over 7,000 square feet of prime backgammon playing real estate. Spacious, quirky, quiet, bright, arty and with plenty of side rooms for commentary, relaxation and analysis.

It is also in one of the most vibrant parts of London – Hackney. It is about time backgammon got trendy and with our new location we are right at the heart of hipster London.

The venue is in Zone 2 next door to Hackney Downs Station which is 5 minutes from Liverpool Street. We are less than 5 miles away from the previous venue.

For overseas players and non-Londoners there is the Hackney Travelodge to stay at – one of the cheapest hotels in central London less than 5 minutes walk from the venue:

We are delighted to announce that the world’s number 1 player, Mochy, has confirmed his attendance. Mochy will be hosting a special backgammon dinner on the Friday before the tournament, more details very soon.

We have also listened on the prize money structure and will be paying out the top 8 places in both the Open and the Professionals. Money will also be put aside for the Last Chance.

Unfortunately we are now absolutely limited to 256 players. 90 people have signed up in just three weeks of being live and we expect to sell out. Places are strictly capped at 128 players in the Professionals’ Tournament and 128 players in the Open Tournament.
