Dear Backgammon Community

You are right, Keene. It is terrible for the game.
These types of accusations and discussions are like snowballs rolling down a mountain -- they get larger and develop their own inertia.
Just this morning we received an e-mail from an individual -- whom I suspect has read this thread -- asking about how to report cheating suspicions of another young player. Another young player whom I know much better than I do Brian.
The 'suspicions' follow the exact scenario of some of the allegations lodged in this thread.
Let me assure everyone -- though most of you already know this, with every player you can analyze an individual match of a number of games and in absolutely every circumstance you will find tremendous variation in PR's between individual games. That does not mean that the player is sometimes using a bot and sometimes is not. It is the nature of the beast. Games vary significantly in length, difficulty, complexity, etc. You can check any of my matches and I'll have some games under 2.0 and sometimes even under 1.0, but I'll have many more significantly higher. That does not mean I'm using a bot in those low PR games.
And, yes, players can improve significantly over time. Those working hard at their games, particularly those relatively new to the game with rapidly increasing levels of experience, can demonstrate marked improvement in statistics over relatively short periods of time. Such players might have greatly improved stats from last year to this year; even beyond the natural variance that might be illustrated in the stats of more experienced and accomplished players.
So, give it a rest and enjoy the great game of backgammon.
You are going to lose matches -- even the best players may only win 65% to 70% of the time (depending on the competition). Just because you lose does not mean that the opponent cheated.
If some of you wish to destroy the game, discourage new players, discourage young players, and drive players from the game, then just keep this nonsense up.
Petty jealousies, envy, and insecurities are not attractive in anyone.
