OT: Calling PC gurus...

My computer smoked on me yesterday, and instead of replacing just the powersupply which would probably fix it, I'm going to use that economic stimulus check to stimulate the electronics industry since I'm quite sick of running on an AMD 1600MHz processor from about 6 years ago...

So I'm going to be buying the pieces to build a new PC.

How much better(faster) do rollouts run on quad cores over dual cores?

I'm looking at the Core2duo 3.0GHz (E8400) vs the Core2quad 2.5GHz (Q9300).

Do the performance increases of the quadcore justify the $100 cost increase?
