I'd make the 4 here. I am wondering about the impact of the race and number of checkers back; in any case, I like putting the extra checker on the 8 to good use while if we don't the position is difficult to develop. In addition, say that we make the 20 and White answers with making the 18, then our 6s are going to get quite ugly (and remain ugly for some time).
