Sunday night and Monday I solicited feedback from more than 20 attendees. Far in away the most popular criticism was my lack of availability to answer players questions/concerns. Many people said I was doing too much. I need to delegate more. I need another person on staff. This is obviously something I needed to fix and I already have. This morning I hired another full time staff member for 2017 and beyond.
One of the things that pulled me away from the players was having to do the Swiss draw. It was a manual process. Sabri has informed me that there is software that I can use to make the entire thing automated. Different Swiss tournaments have different pairing rules so I m not 100% sure the software can adapt to what I believe is best. I am going to check this out and will report back.
Also, the past two years I had a great person running the hospitality for me. That person wasn't available this year and I didn't know this until a week before the tournament. I hired a young college student who I thought would be great but unfortunately he didn't take the initiative to get everything done on his own. I had to help far more than I should have. This will definitely be remedied next year!
