Double Ducks

In this position I would make the five point. Oh sorry about that I forgot my place. Unquestionably I will make a home point bearing in mind that the entry chance with three open is 75% and two open is 56%. As there is no mystery about the five point as it is mostly decided by the roll odds , I look at the escaping chances for the runner on the bar. The five point gives eight whereas the 4 point just 5. In that making five point blocks the 55 Joker and is the point I would like to make, that's the one for me. Having made my decision and getting into analyses mode I look to justify ignoring the four point even though it gave more escaping chances. I did find a further justification, perhaps.
I have not eyeballed anyone over a backgammon board in many a year. Many years ago my wife was playing an online match and in my judgement misplayed a double four. I remonstrated with her about this terrible error. She told me what to do with the doubling cube, oh dear. Any humans who played that I once knew had either moved on or died .
The other day walking past a dingy little cafe on the edge of town Jen noticed a sign," backgammon played here" I sauntered in and noted a game in process beers to hand,on a crusty old portable board. I also noticed that wine and coffee was available. On enquiring how on earth a licence was obtained in such a place I was informed that everything was in order. Health and safety had been in and were happy. The Fire Brigade had been in and they were happy in that in the event of a fire one could just walk out. It is a very small dingy cafe. I edged over to the game and just stood." Hello would you like a game ?" " Eh yeah OK" A coffee was at my elbow, the game was over. A little light conversation followed." How many points" "points!, what do you mean?" "well you know three five maybe seven" "oh no we only play one game" "mmm ok" A few rolls in a 61 to play. "you cant do that you have 63" "no its 61", "sorry the colour has gone from the outside pips , I found this set in the garage it must have been there 30 years" "no cube either then " "no not sure what too do with that" I played my usual beautifully constructed game only to lose to three doubles to my none. Everything is normal my opponent was a very convivial gentleman and won gracefully. My time was up I had to go. I will return with a decent board, maybe leave the cube at home. I like real beer Jen enjoyed the wine. I will be back maybe this is the beginning of something LOL.
