I dunno, maybe he was similarly enraptured by the same intensity of emotions that caused his experienced opponent to suddenly forget that the clock needs to be hit after each roll? Maybe he was preoccupied performing pip counts or calculating take points or double points or gammon values? Maybe he was busy activating his telekinetic powers to manipulate the dice so that opponent will leave a shot in the bearoff?

My point is, why are rules written such that directors are tasked with discerning the intent of the player who did not commit the violation and such that the player who did not commit the violation is actually given an incentive to play dumb or plead ignorance.

The particular rule in question is premised on the assumption that Player A made a mistake, yet their is no sanction whatsoever to Player A, while Player B is threatened with sanctions up to and including permanent banishment from the game! This is ludicrous.
