Again, it sounds like you're trying to make it personal. That's exactly the opposite of what I was trying to do. Understanding how all the details stack up is the only way to measure these accomplishments. I've even used the same example here on the forums bashing my own favorite tennis player in the world, Federer. He won the French Open giving him the career grand slam without facing Nadal. He got lucky someone else beat him and while it certainly doesn't take away that title, it makes it less impressive. This year Djoko had a cake walk at the French also to the finals with Federer not even in the tournament and Nadal pulling out in round 3. The only real match he had to play was in the finals against Murray. He did it giving himself the career slam too. Just as diminished as Federer's win was. There are endless examples in sports and it's not at all about trying to deprive someone of their accomplishments. For me, especially when we're ranking these people on who is the best, it's important to put these accomplishments in a proper perspective.

The short term in backgammon is much longer than most think backed up by even questioning if it could be a game, match, or tournament. Even an entire year I already showed in my reply here to be a joke with my own stats. I liken the short term in backgammon to people understanding how big the universe is. No clue.

You say there are many intangibles that contribute to overall success. Koca hits the nail on the head with the real indicator. Why don't we name some of these intangibles and weigh them?
