Where should we start with this? You take the stance 'playing the main event 4 times a year'. This seems very American centric as far as qualifying goes. Are you going to have a committee that rates what tournaments do and don't qualify where someone plays the 'main event'? For example here in the US, is any ABT event qualified? Florida, which had 10 people in the main event, qualifies whereas probably the weekly Danish club they run playing 17 pointers against much stronger competition wouldn't qualify?

4 big events a year seems like a lot to me esp. when they have to do it two years in a row. Again, backgammon being the negative equity suckhole that it is, there simply aren't a ton of players who make it to that many tournaments. What if I end up playing (this is very possible) 12 tournaments this year and then 2 next year? You're telling me I didn't qualify because you wanted 4 a year?!

I know Europe has a decent amount of events but I don't know specifically how many per year. Europeans have the same qualifying guidelines as those you put forth? How about someone from South America who maybe has to fly to the US or Europe to play in these big events and does it even once a year playing in 2 big events, they're out because that's all they could make it to? Seems impossible and wrong.

Now, on to the cheats. I can't believe after Phil called you out on not naming them you ... you actually didn't name who you thought they were!? I assume when you mentioned 3 cheats you were talking about the 64 list and not the 32 list. From what I remember and can gather I'm the highest rank person I know of who has been ridiculously accused of cheating online. Right after me there is Tobias Hellwag who I was told had an incident years ago. I don't know any of the details so don't ask me. I am not pointing a finger only relaying that a finger has been pointed by others. I know Fernando Braconi was accused of cheating online years back. I have also heard things about Mario Sequeira but again, without doing any research have nothing off the top of my head to substantiate such a claim. Those are the possible 4 that I can pick off the list that you might be referring to. Personally, if I was going to have the balls to say 'I see at least 3 players on the current list who have cheated.' I would have the balls to list the names.

I don't want to rant too far off topic esp. since it doesn't matter but Shoeless Joe and Charlie Hustle both knew beforehand if they broke that rule that they see every day going into and out of the clubhouse and were caught they would be banned for life. If the rule was now created I'd happily go along with it assuming the players caught cheating had the evidence against them that a Shoeless Joe or Pete Rose did. I am not about creating a new rule and punishing past events with it. That's not how it works.

I was hoping someone else would, and Michelle did, bring up a point about defining a cheater too. Depending on how far you take it someone who often moves the checkers with both hands, doesn't shake their dice well enough, moves the checkers with one hand and hits the clock with the other, perhaps makes 'too many' illegal moves, etc... can be tossed into that group. I wouldn't but I can see a case being made esp. when it's all the time. I certainly agree that it's tougher for me to vote for someone as a Giant when they can't abide by these types of rules for the most part.
