GIANTS LIST 2015 - POSSIBLE MODERATION OF OUTLIER RESULTS

By plotting the number of ballots received vs. overall points awarded for each result (except outliers) it can be seen that results tend to approximate to a cubic parabola with very good correlation. Plugging the number of ballots received for each of the five outlier results indicates fair scores of about 1088, 651, 620, 605 and 542 respectively compared to unadjusted scores of 1684, 1124, 1076, 1038 and 949.

These adjusted scores would result in the following adjusted placings (with unadjusted placings in brackets):

32 (16)

49 (29)

51 (31)

52 (33)

60 (36)

Other players originally positioned between 17 and 60 would achieve higher positions. In particular the following two players would be promoted to the top 32 list:

34. Fernando Braconi (27) Italy

35. "Othello" Itikawa (32) Japan
