In Response To: Larsen-Silliman ranking of U.S. players (Bob Koca)

Can't speak of those three sports, but the world's most popular sport (combining participation and spectating), soccer, has time weighted ranking lists. To quote the Wikipedia article on FIFA World Rankings:

"Under the existing system, rankings are based on a team's performance over the last four years, with more recent results and more significant matches being more heavily weighted to help reflect the current competitive state of a team."
