I take the point on the missed cube and, prospectively, the need to maximize your ability to offer a (takeable) cube on the next roll.

I think you may still be missing the point -- you've blown past your market, so now you just want to quietly cash the game on your next turn -- you no longer have any prospect of offering a 'takeable' cube. I believe in all sequences you will have either a cash (you won't be 'too good to double' if he dances?) or you will not be good enough to double at all (he will either have put you on the roof, or have run out into the outfield and lead substantially in the race).

So, you just chose between giving your opponent 3 rolls or 13 rolls that keep him in the game.
