In Response To: Backgammon Dice are NEVER precision dice (Phil Simborg)

If the nature of rounded edges results in some bias, however miniscule, then surely that is just another random factor equal to both players.

But if the purpose of this thread is to somehow overcome the imperfection, rather than just state a simple fact and get on with accepting it, and also if it cannot be resolved electronically, we are stuck with the technology of imprecise precision dice through which some players could possibly steal a slight advantage.

One way to remove even this level of 'predictability' is to keep a covered box/bag of same coloured precision dice by the board, and a player completes his move by picking up his dice and dropping them into the box/bag. Thereafter, an official scrambler shakes the box/bag vigorously and the next player takes two dice to roll.

That should satisfy even the most concerned that a variance of up to 0.0002 inch may be potentially lethal.
