With two in, player sees that they could be bearing off immediately, and anyway might never roll a 5.

This 'problem' makes me think of an episode of Sesame Street I saw many years ago. The Cookie Monster had got to the $64000 question I think, but had the option of settling for a cookie instead. He thought long and hard, then declared: "COOKIE!"
