I had a lot of fun trying to come up with a perfectly played sequence for this position. The result has Blue's 54 as the 9th-roll, right at the edge of my abilities to discover retrograde sequences. The two difficulties were making sure the cube did not get turned and keeping Blue's front checkers from moving.
Turn | Blue | White |
1 | 41S = Split = 24/23, 13/9 | 41K = Kill = 6/2*/1* |
2 | 54 = Enter = bar/21, bar/20 | 11P = Point = 6/5*/4*(2) |
3 | 5 = Enter = bar/20 | 44P = Point = 13/5*(2) |
4 | 21 = Enter = bar/24*, bar/23 | 32@ = Anchor = bar/22, 24/22 |
5 | 54 = ? | |
Along the way, I found at least eight positions where Blue wanted to play a 1 by slotting his 5pt. Here is a typical example:

I always find these "wild" slotting plays to be interesting. That's one of the benefits of trying to find well-played retro sequences. You get to see a lot of early game positions.
