Another possible false assumptiousion--case in point

Colin, you make a very good point. If you go to YouTube and listen to my video Podcast interview with Matt Cohen-Geier a few weeks ago, you will hear him say that one reason he doesn't go to many tournaments is that he does not believe he has much equity. He is provably one of the best players in the world, and I happen to know he has made a lot more money playing backgammon outside of tournaments than he has made in tournaments. (He is also highly skilled at math.)

I can name several more very top money players who you have not seen very often, if ever, at tournaments, and I would love to test their math skills too. Some of them I know personally very well and I can assure you that even if they do not qualify as a "math genius" (I doubt we have a definitive definition) they certainly are highly proficient.
