I agree this is a bad rule and was going to comment on it and other things whenever I found the time. Since you pointed it out I'll hop on your bandwagon. Don't forget there are concave checkers, checkers with a metal rim around them where it may not be perfectly flat. I see no real upside.

Also, when you allow dice to land on checkers that means when the opponent is going to pick up the dice because we're using one set of dice they are potentially touching and moving checkers around. This is obviously horrible.
