Dorn,
Thanks for your feedback [this note and your "one clarification" note]. Your two notes have re-enforced my opinion that "permitting dice to land on checkers and be counted a legitimate roll" is a bad idea. Your first note agreed with my assessment of which die are valid and which are not, but then your second note retracted part of your your first note. Such confusion is what should be avoided, and that is easily done by remaining with the current rule ... which treats all dice which land on checkers as cocked dice.
I won't be experimenting at my club with the proposed new rule. I'm adamantly against it.
The new rule also introduces yet another bifurcation between USBGF rules and Europe. Their rule is consistent with the current U.S. tournament rule that stipulates that dice must come to rest flat on the board surface.
I recognize that the USBGF derived the "dice landing on checker" rule to appease people who complained about being screwed out of clock time because their die landed on top of checkers. I have no sympathy for such people. They need to learn how to play faster so they don't get into clock trouble in the first place.
