In Response To: USBGF Rules - permitting dice to land on checkers is a bad rule (Ken Larsen)

Finally the idiocy of the old rule that dice flat on checkers are cocked is gone.

Dimples aren't a problem as you can always tell what side is up.

Rims around the checkers aren't a problem as you can always tell what side is up.

I learned to play this game over 40 years ago using a very old board with checkers that look like XG's with ridges. Never a problem when a die is on a checker as you can always tell which side is up.

This rule change is necessary to speed the game up a bit and also to not unduly pressure those short on time who sometimes will shake and roll very softly to make sure not to cock. My opinion remains that the dice should tumble out of the cup and tumble across the board to best assure randomness.

Of course, some players will forget and grab the dice for a while when cocked on checkers, but soon all will be used to it.
