American football: e.g. team trails (on the scoreboard) by 1 or 2 but has the ball very late in the game within easy field goal range.

Contract Bridge surely has some, (nearly?) independent of the scoring. E.g. rubber bridge trailing by a few hundred points and playing a stone cold Grand Slam (bid to make all 13 tricks). There are examples in other forms of scoring as well.

Backgammon, trailing -4,-2 with cube turned and well on the way to a gammon?

Baseball, trailing by 1 in bottom of the 9th with bases loaded and no outs?

Basketball, at the free throw line shooting 3, trailing by 1 at the end of regulation?

Maybe I'm missing the point....
