To some there is no mystery to making the 5 point. In the middle game it has a high latent value. To say its simply a question of roll odds is a trite statement to make, bearing in mind thats the nucleus of BG. When one can give a value to the risk involved by calculating the odds a wise decision can be made. It is a simple exercise once the mechanics are understood. It must be "I can do it"
To think that in a Xpt vs Ypt position one has a 50% chance of being correct is a mistake. For example the gammon opportunities required or not may preclude both plays or just one of them subject to the nature of the game. There could be a better play than either and often is but goes unnoticed. Having a grasp of the position is essential.
I guess most of us like to give ourselves a pat on the back when our play is technically correct as per the bot. The trouble is short rollouts on short plays does not always produce the true goods. Very often the choice is an aggressive play or a passive play with a big difference in equity. After a decent rollout the equity difference is of little consequence. Play according to your abilities if you cant get your head around the aggressive play, play passive.
Recently Mr Kazaross made a triple hit on a position posted. I was not man enough or experienced enough and made a passive play. The silver medal award was the passive play, a DMP winner. The meek may inherit the earth and I guess the passive BG player may rise to the top of the heap. Deep long rollouts confirm that as a possibility as passive plays are more often than not in attendance.
